Energy-Efficient Houses

During Term Two, the Year 8 Science classes have been studying energy and energy efficiency. They have put their new knowledge to good use, and have designed a scale floor plan for their own energy-efficient houses.

They have incorporated design features that take advantage of passive solar energy principles, such as the direction their house is facing, eaves and use of deciduous trees. They have also included features such as double or triple-glazed windows, insulation, pelmets and counter-current heat exchangers. They had the choice of creating a scale model of their house, or creating a real estate video show-casing their house.

We are very proud of the hard work the girls have put in, and all that they have learnt this term, well done girls!
